Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about RedactProof.
Security & Privacy
How does RedactProof keep my documents secure?
RedactProof processes documents entirely in your browser using client-side technology. Your files are never uploaded to any server - we literally cannot see them. Combined with tamper-evident verification certificates, you get both privacy and demonstrable integrity.
Where is my data stored?
Nowhere but your device. Documents stay in your browser memory during processing and are discarded when you close the tab. We have no servers storing user documents.
How do you track usage without seeing my documents?
For Lite tier billing, we need to count unique documents without knowing what those documents are. We use a privacy-preserving technique: your browser creates a one-way code from your document that changes each month. We can count these codes to track usage, but we cannot reverse them to identify your documents. Even if someone had your original document, they couldn't prove you processed it.
Is RedactProof GDPR compliant?
Yes. Because documents never leave your device, you maintain full control over personal data processing, which aligns with GDPR requirements for data minimisation and security.
Features
What types of PII can RedactProof detect?
Our AI model detects over 40 types of sensitive information including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, national ID numbers, bank account details, medical record numbers, and more.
Can I redact manually as well as using AI?
Yes. You can use AI detection to find PII automatically, then review and adjust before applying redactions. You can also draw manual redaction boxes on any part of the document.
What are verification certificates?
Verification certificates are cryptographically signed records that confirm a document was redacted at a specific time. They include cryptographic hashes that link the redacted document to its source, without revealing original content. Any modification to the certificate - even changing one character - is immediately detectable. Verification can be performed at redactproof.com/verify or using our independent verifier on GitHub.
Pricing & Plans
Is there a free tier?
Yes. Guest access includes regex-based pattern detection (emails, phone numbers, etc.) and basic redaction features with a watermark. AI-powered detection and verification certificates start from just £19/month with the Lite plan.
What happens if I exceed my Lite tier document limit?
The Lite plan includes 10 documents per month. If you need more, you can buy additional documents in bundles of 3 for £9 - they never expire, so use them anytime. Or upgrade to Pro for unlimited documents. Re-exporting the same document doesn't count as a new document.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards through Stripe. Enterprise customers can arrange invoice billing.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time. You'll continue to have access until the end of your billing period.
What happens if my payment fails?
If a payment fails, you have a 3-day grace period with full access while we retry the payment. After 3 days, your account enters a lapsed state where AI detection, certificates, and clean exports are unavailable. You can still log in, view your audit history, and use manual redaction. Update your payment method anytime to restore full access immediately.
What happens to my purchased overage documents if my subscription lapses?
Your overage documents are frozen, not lost. They remain in your account and become available again as soon as you reactivate your subscription. Overage documents never expire, even during a lapse period.
Technical
Which browsers are supported?
RedactProof works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version for the best experience.
What file formats are supported?
Currently, RedactProof supports PDF documents. We process the PDF entirely in your browser, including text extraction and OCR for scanned documents.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no hard limit, but very large files may be slower to process as everything happens in your browser. For best performance, we recommend files under 50MB.
